As SCRW approaches, it’s more important than ever to support your favorite local spots and try some new ones.

“You can learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together.”
—Anthony Bourdain
Before kicking off last year’s Santa Cruz Restaurant Week, GT noted the challenging year it had been for the local restaurant industry. The slew of “new normal” adaptations implemented—outdoor dining, to-go dining, etc.—so the long-timers and newbies could scrape by. And that’s what it’s felt like: scraping by; it’s been day-to-day living since this thorn plunged into the collective side of society. While there were layoffs, owners who had to go without pay or dip into savings, there were more unfortunate scenarios: Some of those local favorites just couldn’t hold on. Fare thee well to all those joints that have been part of our lives for years, nourishing us, filling our tummies.
Yes, we are still in the middle of a global pandemic, but the sun has begun to poke through those dark clouds. Hope is in the air. As we said last year, “We’re all in this together.” The same is true today, which is why it’s crucial to participate in the 13th-annual Santa Cruz Restaurant Week (Oct. 20-27). Whether you are a Santa Cruz County restaurant owner, a hungry customer in Santa Cruz County or you just want to get to know someone better.
